Want to travel to Africa but don’t know how to get started?

You’re in the right place.

I hear from so many folks who want to travel to Africa, but don’t know where to start planning a safari. I want everyone to fall in love with Africa the way I have, so I came up with some ways to help!

I offer two options:

  1. Africa Travel Advice 1-on-1 Zoom call

  2. Personalized trip planning for a safari in Tanzania

Scroll down for details and prices.

I recommend starting to plan your trip at least several months before you want to travel. In high season some lodges will book up a year in advance.

Why am I qualified to advise you on how to travel in Africa?

If you don’t know me already - Hi, I’m Emily! I’ve traveled to Africa 18 times since my first trip in 2006 (probably more by the time you’re reading this). I’ve visited 12 countries and spent nearly two years in total on the continent. I absolutely adore sub-Saharan Africa and I’m passionate about helping folks discover what an incredible place it is.

As a Registered Nurse, I have lived and worked in Africa on multiple occasions, as well as visiting often for fun. I’ve been fortunate to enjoy countless safaris, and my husband and I drove ourselves from South Africa to Kenya over a three-month period. I have contacts and personal experience all over Southern and East Africa that I love to share!

Check out my Africa Travel Q&A on Instagram for answers to some frequent questions I get about traveling in Africa (so you can see that I know my stuff).

Personalized Tanzania Safari Planning

$450

Foresight Eco-Lodge in Tanzania is one of my favorite places in the world. I would love to help you plan a safari there!

Foresight is a great option for first-time travelers in Africa and experienced adventurers. It’s located near world-famous Ngorongoro Crater and close enough to visit Serengeti and other parks. The lodge is locally owned and invests its profits in community development, so your stay directly supports locals. On top of all that, the lodge and its surroundings are absolutely beautiful and the staff will treat you like family.

I’ve been leading group trips here annually. You can check out those trip details for a taste of what your safari with Foresight would be like.

Who is this trip ideal for?

This trip will work for solo travelers, couples, and groups (up to 6 people per safari vehicle). I’d say kids age 10 and up would have a blast. I’ve also had guests visit Foresight for a group retreat.

How much does a trip to Foresight cost?

In the ball park of $2,000 per person, per week (plus airfare). That number may go up or down depending on if you’re sharing a room, the total number of people in your party, which activities you do, and which season you visit.

What do you get for $450?

We’ll start with a Zoom call to craft your personalized itinerary. Foresight has many options for parks to visit, cultural experiences, hikes, and more (you can check out some of their activities here). I’ll help you design an itinerary that suits your interests and timeline (what time of year you visit can have a big impact). Then I’ll connect you with Foresight’s owners and help you make your booking.

As your trip approaches, I can provide:

  • Tips for booking flights

  • Instructions for applying for your travel visa

  • Travel health recommendations (immunizations, malaria prevention, etc)

  • A packing list specific to your trip

  • Answers to any questions you have - my goal is to make sure you feel safe and stoked for your trip to Tanzania!
